Industries We Serve

Waste Management for Chemical Manufacturers

Packaging Reuse runs the full loop for chemical manufacturers: we fill and pack your chemicals into containers, collect the waste the process makes, and take the contaminated packaging back and return it reconditioned. One supplier across all three is unusual in this market, and it is built on a Trafford Park site licensed for industrial packaging treatment since the early 1980s.

A working plant is never one stream, and most contractors sell chemical waste management in halves, take the easy part and leave you to place the rest. Getting your chemical waste disposal and your packaging onto one account removes the friction where the streams meet. Send us your stream list, including the ones your current contractor has declined, and we will tell you what we can take and how it routes. Call 0161 848 0976 or get in touch.

What waste do we take from a chemical plant?

A chemical plant can run eight or nine chemical waste streams at once, and we hold all of them on one chemical waste management account:

  • Spent solvents and catalysts: clean grades for recovery and mixed for treatment.
  • Reaction by-products and off-spec stock: out-of-date and off-specification product.
  • Effluent, washdown and tank bottoms: process residues and settled solids.
  • Filter cake and sludges: dewatered process solids and pollution abatement residues.
  • Laboratory small-packs and contaminated PPE: QC reagents and consumables.
  • Contaminated packaging: the drums and IBCs your product left in, back as waste.

What each material is and where it goes is set at assessment. Send us a stream list and your safety data sheets, and we will tell you what each one is.

How we handle your chemical manufacturing waste

We hold the whole site on one account with one accountable contact, so you get one schedule and one set of documents instead of four contractors on four days. Our full-time chemist classifies each stream against WM3 on its own, gives it a container plan and a route, and we collect on rounds that combine where compatibility allows. We run the container loop from one EA-permitted site with a wash plant and a filling line in the same yard: we supply and fill new and reconditioned UN-approved drums, IBCs and jerry cans, collect the waste, and wash, leak-test and recertify the sound containers back into service. Hazardous loads travel on a consignment note with the receiving site’s return and non-hazardous on a transfer note, one format and one numbering trail, under the ISO 9001 system we have held since 2015. We collect UK-wide under ADR from pre-acceptance, so distance shows up in the price rather than the service, from specialty chemical producers, coatings, ink and adhesive formulators, surfactant blenders and agrochemical packers.

Chemical manufacturing waste questions

Can you handle several waste streams from one site under one arrangement?

Packaging Reuse holds several waste streams from one site on a single arrangement, which is the point of the account. Each stream is classified on its own and gets its own container plan and route, then collected on rounds that combine where compatibility allows. You end up with one schedule and one set of documents instead of four contractors, four days and four formats.

Empty drums and IBCs off a chemical line stay classed as hazardous while residue remains, commonly under EWC 15 01 10*. We assess, high-pressure wash, leak-test and recertify the sound containers, then return them to service, and a recovered container replaces a new one somewhere else. You are not promised the same physical drums back, because reconditioned containers come from a pool matched to your fill specification.

Packaging Reuse supplies the containers as well as collecting them, which for most chemical companies is the half they currently buy elsewhere. Our repackaging line fills into 10, 20 and 25 litre containers, hand packs for combination packing, codes labels to your requirement and applies tamper-evident packaging, with new and reconditioned drums, IBCs and jerry cans in UN-approved specification. That matters most on the day a batch fails and you need packaging in and disposal out at once.

Packaging Reuse can usually take an off-specification batch at short notice, and what sets the timescale is how fast the material can be tested and a receiving site can accept it. If you already hold data on it, that is quicker, and where a process went wrong and nobody is certain what is in the tank, we sample first and move it second.

Packaging Reuse runs both scheduled collections against your production plan and one-off clearances such as a decommissioning or an off-spec batch. Scheduled uplifts land around shift patterns and shutdown weeks, and one accountable contact holds the lot. Either way the correct note travels with every load.

Talk to us about the containers and the chemicals together

If you buy packaging from one supplier and disposal from another, you are running two contracts that describe the same drum. Send us a stream list, your safety data sheets and a note of what you fill, and we will come back with the classification, the route for each stream, and what comes back to your yard.
